Hymn – Light and Truth

Your words to me are light and truth;

From day to day they show

Their wisdom, passing earthly lore,

As in their truth I grow.

Your words to me are full of joy,

Of beauty, peace and grace;

From them I learn your blessed will,

Through them I see your face.

Your words are perfected in one,

Yourself, the living Word;

Within my heart your image print

In clearest lines, O Lord.

Hymn – Abide with me

Abide with me; fast fall the eventide;

The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.

When other helpers fail and comforts flee,

Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth did smile;

And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,

Thou has not left me, oft as I left thee,

On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless;

Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.

Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?

I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hymn – A Spendthrift Lover

A spendthrift lover is the Lord

Who never counts the cost

Or asks if heaven can afford

To woo a world that’s lost.

Our lover tosses coins of gold

Across the midnight skies

And stokes the sun against the cold

To warm us when we rise.

Still more is spent in blood and tears

To win the human heart,

To overcome the violent fears

That drive the world apart.

Behold the bruised and thorn-crowned face

Of one who bears our scars

And empties out the wealth and grace

That’s hinted by the stars.

How shall we love this heart-strong God

Who gives us everything,

Whose ways to us are strange and odd,

What can we give or bring?

Acceptance of the matchless gift

Is gift enough to give,

The very act will shake and shift

The way we love and live.

Hymn – In light inaccessible

A beautiful hymn in the Magnificat this morning – what beautiful images it makes in my thoughts:
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might,
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render; O help us to see
“Til only the splendor of light hideth thee.

Hymn – Come, Lazarus

Sung to the tune of Amazing Grace:

amazing grace“Come, Lazarus,” the Savior called;

and from the stony grave

came forth his friend, from death unthralled,

to show God’s power to save.

It was no light or easy task

to wake this one who slept;

the Healer feigned no callous mark:

moved deeply, Jesus wept.

Fill us with your compassion, Lord,

our fear and pride remove,

till all our lives enflesh your word

and bear your wounds of love.

Convert our wills and make us whole;

wean us from selfish strife;

transform each heart and mind and soul

with your abundant life.

Then send us forth to show your love

in every time and place,

that healed and healing, we may prove

the channels of your grace.

Hymn – Baptism

The waters of our mother earth,

Her rivers, oceans, lakes and springs,

Are mirror to the depths of God –

The freshness at the heart of things.

Our sister water, wondrous gift,

Can cleanse and cool, destroy and drown

The mistress of both life and death,

Through her all living things are bound.

Her currents held the Lord of life,

Abyss of death, baptismal tomb.

With blood she came forth from his side

As breaking waters from the womb.

O Christ in whom we are baptized,

Washed clean, refreshed, and sanctified:

Be praised for this our sister fair

By whom we live, in whom we died.

Hymn – We walk by faith

download

We walk by faith, and not by sight;

No gracious words we hear

From Him who spoke as none e’er spoke;

But we believe Him near.

We may not touch His hands and side,

Nor follow where He trod;

But in his promise we rejoice,

And cry, “My Lord and God”

Help then, O Lord, our unbelief;

And may our faith abound,

To call on you when you are near

And seek where you are found”

That, when our life of faith is done,In realms of clearer light

We may behold you as you are

With full and endless sight.

Hymn – Living Lord

Living Lord, our praise we render!

His the blood for sinners shed.

In the Father’s power and splendor

Christ is risen from the dead.

Death’s dominion, burst and broken

By that Life which no more dies;

We to whom the Lord has spoken,

One with Christ, in freedom rise.

One with Christ, both dead and risen’

Dead to self and Satan’s claim,

Raised from death and sin’s dark prison,

Life is ours through Jesus’ Name.

Hymn – Jesus, Lover of my Soul

Jesus, Lover of my soul,

Let me to thy mercy fly,

While the nearer waters rolls,

While the tempest still is high:

Hide me, O my Savior, hide,

Till the storm of life be past;

Safe into the haven guide,

O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none,

Hangs my helpless soul on thee;

Leave, ah! leave me not alone,

Still support and comfort me:

All my trust on thee is stayed;

All my help from thee I bring;

Cover my defenseless head

With the shadow of thy wing.

Plenteous grace with thee is found,

Grace to cleanse from every sin’

Let the healing streams abound,

Make and keep me pure within:

Thou of life the fountain art,

Freely let me take of thee:

Spring thou up within my heart,

Rose to all eternity.

Hymn – Our Lady of Lourdes

Before the fruit is ripened by the sun,

Before the petals or the leaves uncoil,

Before the first fine silken root is spun,

A seed is dropped and buried in the soil.

Before we gain the grace that comes through loss,

Before we live by more than bread and breath,

Before we lift with joy an empty cross,

We face with Christ the seed’s renewing death.
