Jeremiah 29:11-14 “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future filled with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you for all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
We are instructed to read this passage, then read it slowly and then read it again even more slowly. Let the words fill us, let them touch our hearts, and use them to start a conversation with the Lord.
My strongest thought or feeling during this prayer – I know that God has done this for me, that He has brought me back from a place of exile to a place full of hope. Some years ago, when Jesus appeared to me in a dream, I received the invitation to return. I am so grateful that I am loved; I am so grateful that God reached out to me, to save me from a self imposed exile, to save me from the desert and the hell I had sent myself to. What a great and merciful God we have. To love me, an unworthy sinner, what did He see in me that was worth saving, when it was I who walked away from Him all those years ago?
My heart rested when I recognized once again that I am loved.
I sense the Lord was telling me to keep opening my heart to Him. I will not be disappointed. Look how far He has taken me in these few short years. Someday, if I persevere in loving and following Him, I will see Him face to face and know peace.
I ended the prayer wanting to share this passage with Jill when I visit her today or Sunday. I want her to know that God has called her back to Him too, that she is beloved of God.
