When Paul came to Antioch in Pisidia, he said in the synagogue:
“My brothers, children of the family of Abraham,
and those others among you who are God-fearing,
to us this word of salvation has been sent.
The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him,
and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets
that are read sabbath after sabbath.”
That last line struck me on Friday as I realized the I, too, have heard many of the same readings year after year and yet I have not taken them to heart. What does it take until I truly understand?
I also read this week about Holy Saturday – that the Lord rested from his labors in the tomb, as it was the Sabbath. How beautiful! As God rested on the seventh day from His labors of creation, so Jesus rested. And on the first day of the new week, the first day of a new creation, Jesus rose from the tomb to begin the work which is still on-going. And I am part of that work.
